The Perfect Eyebrows with Jacklyn Thurston

The Perfect Eyebrows with Jacklyn Thurston

Hey everyone! Welcome to another blog post Wednesday!

Today, we are talking about how to achieve the perfect eyebrows with one our favorite Master Estheticians, Jacklyn Thurston. Your eyebrows frame your face so it is very important to have beautiful brows!

Waxing:

Step one– Map out your eyebrows

Mark three points on your eyebrows.

1. Your inner eyebrow: where the dimple of your nose is, straight up.

2. Your arch: the edge of your nose to the outside of your iris or pupil.

3. Your tail: the corner of your nose to the outside corner of your eye.

Step Two– Outline the shape

Connect the points at the top and at the bottom.

1. The first section is from the beginning of your eyebrow closest to your nose, to your arch. Keep this outline parallel and straight.

2. The second section is from your arch to the end of your eyebrow. Connect those dots to a point at the end.

Step Three– Wax eyebrows according to the outline

Filling in your eyebrows:

Step One– Underline the bottom of the brow

Don’t be afraid to outline with a heavier hand when outlining. We will take care of it in later steps.

Step Two– In the first section of your eyebrow, hold the pencil flat and brush upwards. Jacklyn uses the Smashbox BROW TECH TO GO because it is a wider pencil and therefore, more natural looking when brushing upwards.

Step Three– Outline the arch and fill in from the arch to the tail.

Step Four– Fill in middle section where hair is more sparse and use a gentler touch in fuller areas

Step Five– Use a spoolie/mascara wand to brush up and out

This softens the lines so that it looks more natural. If your lines are too harsh, just brush more.

Preventing Breakouts After Waxing:

Jacklyn recommends that you do not touch or itch the area for up to 24 hours after waxing. The dirt and oil from your hands can clog your open pores.

Another way of preventing breakouts is using an astringent or anti-bacterial serum after waxing. You can also use hand sanitizer if you are in a pinch.

And that is how you can get the perfect eyebrows!

The best skincare for dry skin

The best skincare for dry skin

Winter is here and dry skin is a sad reality. Luckily, we have the best of the best to take care of you! Our esthetics team recommended this skin care routine for dry and dull skin.

They recommend medical grade products, such as Glymed and Skin Medica as opposed to regular drug store or department store products.

“Drug store and department store products only contain 2%-5% active ingredients. Medical grade products contain more than 90% active ingredients. Medical grade products can only be sold by licensed professionals. This means that these products will have significantly better results than something you’d buy at Walmart or even Sephora,” says Jordyn Pope, Master Esthetician here at Amara Day Spa.

Taking off your makeup is such an important step in keeping your skin youthful and glowing. We recommend the Smashbox It’s A Wrap! Waterproof Makeup Remover. It’s a nice water-based, gentle remover.

In order to make sure all of the dirt and oil from your skin is removed, cleanser is essential. Glymed’s Mega Purifying Cleanser is our go-to cleanser for clean, pure skin. It helps break down any additional makeup that was left by your makeup remover.

Retinol is used to rid your skin of dark spots and hyper-pigmentation, as well as minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Our estheticians recommend using Retinol twice a week. Start at a low dosage (such as .25 Retinol by Skin Medica) and build up to a higher dosage.

One of AMARA’s top sellers, the HA5 Serum by Skin Medica contains five forms of hyaluronic acid meant to rejuvenate your skin. It is perfect to plump the skin for those with dullness, helps improve wrinkles and fine lines and helps your skin produce more of its own hyaluronic acid. Try it for 8 weeks and you will see a significant improvement in your skin!

Step #5: Moisturizer.

Your moisturizer cream is arguably the most important part of your skin care routine. Therefore the product you use is just as important. Our recommendation is the Glymed Daily Repair Mega-Moisture Cream. This cream is packed with vitamins and minerals that your skin needs to stay  healthy and nourished! It slowly repairs skin to make it as healthy and balanced as possible.

The benefits of Botox in your 20s

(The glabella wrinkles have significant improvement.)

New year, new you! Taking better care of yourself should definitely be on your new year’s resolution list! Having a healthier lifestyle will slow down your aging process, making you look and feel younger for longer.

You may have assumed that Botox is for correcting the aging process after it has taken place but just like eating healthy and working out, Botox an help slow down the age process before aging occurs!

Nurse practioner, Dr. Kat Lofley here at Amara calls it “spanx for your face.”

“As we age, our skin turn over slows down, so our skin is less resilient to bounce back. Our dynamic contractions in our face, which are the wrinkles that occur when we move our faces, eventually become static,” says Lofley.

So why get it as early as your twenties? “Botox is used to prevent those static wrinkles in your early years,” says Lofley. This means you will have less wrinkles as you age, just like a healthy lifestyle prevents aging from the inside out. “Aging is not the enemy, but aging gracefully is the goal.”

Many people still have reservations toward Botox because of popular culture references to a “frozen face.” Lofley says that is not entirely true.

“Botox can be done to maintain movement. A common misconception is that a face with Botox cannot make any expression. You can customize your treatment to maintain a natural look,” says Lofley.

One of the most surprising things about Botox is it is not only for your face! There are so many other uses for it.

“Botox can also be used for things like “bunny lines” when you scrunch your nose, to relax the lip and correct a gummy smile, soften the appearance and lessen tension from overly strong jaw muscles and even to create a fuller look in the lips. It can be used to treat excessive sweating in armpits, hands and feet.

“Some find that when they get their upper face treated, it can help with tension headaches. We have also seen significant improvement in skin texture as well, although there isn’t yet scientific data to support these claims.”
